ADFPA MACOMB RECORD BREAKER & INTERNTIONAL QUALIFIER

The Macomb RECORD-BREAKER & QUALIFYER was held March 1 at the Salvation Army Community Center in Macomb Illinois. The center, a relatively small facility was literally filled with 21 participants, representing 4 states (Illinois, Iowa, Missouri & Wisconsin), many spectators as well as cheerleaders.  The lifter’s ages ranged from 14 yrs to 51; experientially the range was from 1st powerlifting competition ever to over 20 years of competition.  Some lifters came with determination to set or break established ADFPF DRUG-FREE records, others were focused on reaching International QUALIFICATION TOTALS & SCORES; some came for the fun & fellowship as they mingled with lifting friends they see only at competitions.

Amazingly the UNEQUIPPED & EQUIPPED Divisions were almost equally divided with ONE BRAVE SOUL competing in both Divisions and QUALIFYING for both the UNEQUIPPED & EQUIPPED Divisions of the POWERLIFTING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.  CONGRATULATIONS to WIU Graduate, Mrs. Lisa Mangold!  It is noteworthy how rapidly the UNEQUIPPED Division has grown within both the ADFPF and the WDFPF.

Meet directors Tim Piper & Donald Wynn decided once again to turn the clock back by hosting a NO-TROPHY event with the award being the personal satisfaction brought about by not only attempting to set new A.D.F.P.F.  STATE & AMERICAN records but by pulling lifting efforts together to qualify to become an international lifter.  Reaching the QUALIFYING TOTAL &/or SCORES allows ADFPF members to apply for a slot on the U.S. Teams competing in the 2008 SINGLE EVENT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS held in ANTWERP, BELGIUM October 10, 11, 12 and/or in the 2008 POWERLIFTING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS held in EVANSVILLE, INDIANA November 22 & 23.  The Macomb Entry Fee calculation was based upon drug testing costs; $10.00 for powerlifting or for one single event with an additional charge of $5.00 for another Event or Category.  Macomb definitely runs well-organized, inexpensive meets for participants.

The “older lifters attending this competition recalled how much fun it was to compete in the late 70’s and 80’s when the Equipped Division was the only option & the supportive suits were inexpensive; entry fees were reasonable and awards of medals were sufficient.  In an effort to get Meet Directors to allow women to enter their meets, we would suggest that the women would not need awards.  In each situation the decision was made to allow the women to enter and to our surprise, left-over awards were presented.

Everyone had a great afternoon and at the conclusion of the competition the appreciative participants helped to relocate all of the meet equipment back into the weight room area of the training facility.

In the UNEQUIPPED Division Powerlifting, Lisa Mangold (MOTHER OF 3), Brandon Acid, Bryon Rude, Ryan Wilkens, Dan Behrens, Brent Henry and Bill Duncan each qualified to compete the WDFPF POWERLIFTING World Championships in Evansville Indiana November 22 & 23.  Each of the seven competitors also established American & State Records.

In the unequipped Single Event Squat, Ann Buren and Craig Stear established ADFPF American records with Ann Buren, Joshua Andrews and Gavin Young establishing American records in the Bench Press Event.  Teenagers Gavin Young (14) & Joshua Andrews (17) both in the same weight class set UNEQUIPPED Deadlift American Records in their respective age Categories.

In the equipped powerlifting event, Lisa Mangold, Brian Cannon and Chris Forestier qualified for the World Championships in Evansville Ind. in November 23.  Of the qualifiers, Chris Forestier established American records in all four events. In addition to the qualifiers Chris Siders who went 9 for 9, and Kashmiere McKeever established American records.
