The1^st ANNUAL POWERLIFT ING & SINGLE EVENT COMPETITION

Steady membership growth has taken place since Aug. 13^th, 2005 when the American Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation hosted their first competition in the state of Michigan. The ongoing development of the A.D.F.P.F. is due to the dedication of competent, energetic administrators, athletes and meet directors each reflecting a deep commitment to DRUG-FREE sport. To date, the A.D.F.P.F. membership represents 16 states! The administrative backbone of the ADFPF continues to be the teamwork of Board of Directors Richard & Jan Van Eck who deliver platform and warm-up room equipment to many of the MI & Indiana competitions. Assisting the Van Ecks with the MI work are Debby & John Jachim (MI State’s Chair) who traveled to Bendigo Australia to participate in the 2006 SINGLE EVENT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. John could hardly wait to return home to incorporate within Michigan what he believed to be very professional aspects of the promotion and conduct of that World Championships. Jeff Buchin (teacher at Lancing Community College) along with wife Kenijo (Assistant Director at Sparrow Hospital) promote drug-free Powerlifting by hosting A.D.F.P.F. events in Lansing and traveling to other events to compete & assist.

On January 20^th, John Jachim, Debby with the assistance of numerous volunteers many from the Gentle Shepherd Church, hosted the Gentle Shepherd’s first Powerlifting & Single Event competition in Six Lakes MI. The Church has a special-events community center was not what one would expect to find in this small community. The facility was new, large and well equipped to host events. The large kitchen complete with a crew of well-qualified chefs provided an array of wonderful homemade food throughout the day. John along with Josh Decker canvassed high schools from surrounding areas including Grand Rapids encouraging young lifters to get involved with drug-free Powerlifting; a sport guaranteed to develop total body strength, which carries over to all sport activities as well as to improving general health throughout life. Their efforts paid off as 15 teen & Junior lifters entered the meet joining the ranks of other MI competitors.

During the competition, 32 teenage American Records were set; 5 Junior Records; 19 Masters’ records and 13 Open Records with a total of 89 Michigan State Records. Three lifers were drug tested; 1 positive drug test (lifter’s name and competition info has been removed from results. Many thanks to the officials, score table workers, announcer, spotters/loaders & platform manager Mike Lawrence.

QUALIFICATION for the 2007 WORLD DRUG-FREE POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS :

UNEQUIPPED Division QUALIFIERS include: 55.5 kg. Class CASEY HERMAN; 70.0 kg. Class CAROL BURR; 75.9 kg. Class JONATHON & JEFFERY KRUKOWSKI; 90.0 kg. Class JOSHUA DECKER; and ALEX BOHN; 145.0 kg. Class WESLEY HANNA.

EQUIPPED Division QUALIFIERS include:70.0 kg. Class AMBER HOLLAND; 67.5 kg. Class NICHOLAS DiCENZO; 82.5 kg. Class ROBERT BATKO and DAVID LORMIE; 90.0 kg. Class JOSEF STACHOWICZ; 110.0 kg. Class RUDY LOPEZ;125.0 kg. Class KYLE GRAND and reahing the QUALIFYING total for CANADA, ADRIAN NINABER.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH OF YOU! The 2007 POWERLIFTING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held on NOV. 17^TH (UNEQUIPPED Division) & 18^th (EQUIPPED Division) in GRANGEMOUTH SCOTLAND!

ALL LIFTERS who totaled in the meet QUALIFIED for the SINGLE EVENT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS held in Montesilvaso Italy on October 12^th (SQUAT Event starting with the UNEQUIPPED Division followed by the EQUIPPED Division; 13^th (BENCH PRESS Event (same format, EQUIPPED, UNEQUIPPED then ENDURANCE BENCH PRESS (men do reps with body weight; women do reps with half body weight); & 14^th (DEADLIFT Event, UNEQUIPPED Division followed by EQUIPPED Division).

QUALIFICATION TOTALS MAY BE REACHED IN ANY A.D.F.P.F. Sanctioned event. Qualfied lifters who wish to secure a slot on the U.S.A. Teams entering W.D.F.P.F. Championships should notify the ADFPF National Office a.s.a.p.
